Bird-watching

We are amateur -- very amateur -- bird-watchers and we will use this section of our website to share with you some of our bird-watching discoveries.

As of July 2008 we now live in Northumberland County, Virginia.  Our house is situated on the southern bank of the Potomac River about 5 miles from where the Potomac joins the Chesapeake Bay.  From our front porch we look directly across the Potomac -- 6 miles wide at this point -- to Point Lookout, Maryland, and to the Bay.   Because of our proximity to the Potomac and the Bay, and because of the woods and farmland behind us, we see a variety of birds -- shore birds, waterfowl, and typical forest and meadow dwelling songbirds.

The birds that we have seen since we moved here in November 2008 are listed on this page.

Photos of birds we have seen are on this page.

Here's a description of the equipment and books we use for bird watching.
