Building our
new home
-- Preparing to pour concrete:  shed --

In the back corner of the lot we are building a 20X16 foot storage shed/workshop.  The shed will be built on a concrete slab poured on the ground.  On 29 February the concrete crew set up the form and tied the rebar for the shed floor.

Shed location.  We stripped the topsoil off and poured a foundation of sand about 8 inches thick; we compacted the sand by driving a tractor back and forth over it.  Now, the concrete crew has built a form of 2X4 lumber and will pour a concrete slab on which we will build a shed.

The slab is 26X20; the shed will be 20X16, leaving a front and side "porch" on the shed.  In the shed we will store lawn and garden tools, lawn mower, and tiller.  Also, we will put in a long workbench and install our table saw, drill press, planer, joiner, and other power tools.  We'll use the shed for woodworking and furniture refinishing.

Here's a close-up of the shed form.  The rebar is tied with wire at each junction and is set up on 2-inch high concrete blocks.  Slab will be 4 inches thick.
