Building our new house:
Kitchen - page Two

More photos of the kitchen.

The object in the front of the photo is the kitchen island -- we have the countertop covered with cardboard to protect it.  The left edge of the island and the edge facing the camera are counters -- they overhang 12 inches and we will have stools under the counter.  The other side of the island -- facing the cooktop -- is three cabinets with big, roll-out drawers to  hold pots and pans.  At the rear of the photo, starting at the French door on the left edge of the photo:  Counter with dishwasher underneath; main sink; turn the corner; gas cooktop with exhaust hood; shelf for microwave; hole for refrigerator.

Looking across the island at the refrigerator.  Note the two holes to the left of the refrigerator space -- the upper hole will have a door on it and is a cabinet; lower hole is for the microwave oven.  Note the skinny, floor-to-ceiling cabinet to the right of the refrigerator -- this is a spice cabinet -- nine feet tall, one foot deep, two feet wide -- the doors are around the corner -- this will  hold spices, our various olive oils and vinegars, cooking wine, and the like.
